We differ between 7 types of hair that are suitable for usage in a razor brush:
A finishing shop delivers the badger hair. Its quality is recognizable at its colours, separating it into two different types: natural badger and silvertip badger hair (handpick).
silvertip hairs are being combed and picked out at the finishing shop. The darker hair is sorted out as back hair, the very light ones as silvertips. The ready shaving brush visibly represents those colour differences: The back hair brush has a brown middle streak, the hair below is light grey.
The brown middle streak is particularly prominent in the silver tip brush, the hair above and below it are almost white.
However, when judging the quality, aesthetic taste should not play a prominent role. The lighter the hair, the finer the shaving soap is foaming, and hence the more pleasant is the shave.
Hair that isn"™t picked by hand at the finishing shop, but cut, in Germany is called "Dachsstock". The hair is grey or black, and without any visible middle streak.
